On a personal note... Skin Cancer Part II

(A beautiful Hudson Valley sunrise from my kitchen window)
Hi friends! I wanted to give you an update on the status of my skin cancer. Yesterday morning was the surgery to have the tumor in my neck removed. It was not a pleasant procedure, but I can now report the tumor is gone.

The doctor made a 4 1/2" incision just about on the center of my neck. The tumor was much larger than anticipated and it took over 75 stitches to close the area. I am very sore and the area is definitely tender. I am having some trouble raising and lowering my head, also moving my head from side to side. I think it will just take some time for the healing process to take place.

I need to tell you how grateful I am for the expertise of the doctors and staff at the surgery center. My aunt who was with me the whole time, was a real trooper! She cried for me and I have a feeling I will be creating some yummy "thank you" cupcakes when I am feeling better.

I am, again, encouraging you to check your body frequently for anything unusual and use the Body Mole Map and track any suspicious marks you find and have questions on. Do not be afraid to ask your doctor about your concerns; you will be so happy you did.

Find FREE SKIN CANCER SCREENINGS here through the American Academy of Dermatology. Additionally, check out the Skin Cancer Foundation Road to Healthy Skin Tour here.

Oil of Olay has a fabulous Skin Cancer Awareness Video here should you need more motivation to get checked out. I want to share my story with you so we can all have more days together to eat and share cupcakes! Please be healthy, stay happy and know I will continue to fight until I am cancer free!
